City of St. Ignace Police Departmental Personnel

Police Chief- Mark A. Wilk Police Chief: Mark A. Wilk               stignacepd@lighthouse.net

Chief Wilk has been the Chief of Police since February 2010.  Since becoming Chief, he has upgraded several areas in the department including an enhanced records management system and electronic crash reporting that can be completed in the patrol cars.  Chief Wilk has lived in the St. Ignace area since age 7and graduated from LaSalle High School.  He acquired an Associates degree in electrical engineering at Michigan Technological University, Chief Wilk decided he wanted to go into law enforcement and enrolled in the police academy at Delta College. Following his graduation in December 1987, he joined the St. Ignace Police Department as an officer. In 2002, Mr. Wilk was promoted to sergeant. He resides in St. Ignace with his wife, Shonda, and has one son, Michael. Like his predecessor, he has an open-door policy and always welcomes feedback from citizens.

After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice from Lake Superior State University, Sgt. Allen Mitchell made it his goal to eventually return to his hometown to work and raise a family. He worked for the Mackinaw City Police Department for two years before joining the St. Ignace Police force in 2006. He now lives in the same neighborhood he grew up in with his wife and daughter. Sgt. Mitchell currently heads the department as the evidence/crime scene technician along with running the Car Seat Program.

Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Richard Cullen’s path to becoming a police officer began in the U.S. Coast Guard. After being stationed on the Biscayne Bay in St. Ignace and Cape May, New Jersey, Mr. Cullen joined the Sault Tribe Police force as an officer in 1997, working there for seven years before joining the St. Ignace department in 2008. Officer Cullen is the department’s Taser Instructor. Officer Cullen resides in the city of St. Ignace with his wife Mary and his four daughters, Liberty, Cadence, Addison and Zoey.  Officer Cullen returned to the department February 2014 after a 12 month deployment to Afgahanistan where he was a Training Coordinator for the Department of Defense.  He provided training in firearms, special weapons, tactics, convoy operations, high risk motorcade operations and PSD to Private Military Companies, the United States, Afghan and Foreign Military forces in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Officer Edwards was raised in Florida, and currently lives in Pellston with his wife Pamela and 6 children.  Officer Edwards began his career in the United States Army where he served for 6 1/2 years, he held the position of Military Police Officer and the rank of Staff Sergeant with deployments to Iraq and Korea.  Officer Edwards joined the City of St. Ignace Police department in September 2015 after prior employment with the Village of Mackinaw City and the Michigan Department of Corrections. 

       
 

 

 

 

       
 

Clerk Kelly Simmons                   sipdclerk@lighthouse.net

Originally from Lapeer, Michigan, Kelly joined the St. Ignace Police Department in 2011. She married in 1990 and moved to St. Ignace to raise two boys.  Mrs. Simmons is responsible for the clerical duties for the department and became a certified Mackinac County Car Seat Technician in 2012.
